If you are a band manager or look after your own band there are lots of organisational aspects you need to consider when you are organising gigs. When you have organised venue and equipment, one of the most important things is to organise your advertising.

Whilst gig posters are one of the best ways to advertise a concert or tour the design of them is often overlooked or minimised. If you are planning on using posters it’s important to make sure you cover all the bases so we’ve put together a handy guide to make sure your event posters are a success!

Research for inspiration

Poster printing is a cost effective way to get your message across but before you even start designing your posters, it’s important to do your research.

You can start simply by looking up previous gig posters online. It’s important to look at event posters from bands that are in a similar genre to you so you get a feel for the right aesthetic before you start designing.

If you are looking for large poster printing, consider the space that will need to be covered on the poster, looking specifically for larger posters to see how this has been achieved previously.

Aesthetics will attract attention

The aesthetic of your gig posters will give potential gig-goers an idea of what your concert will be before they even read the information on the poster.

There are two aspects that need to be considered:

Design by genre

Always design for your genre. Your earlier research should have given you an indication on what types of design bands in your genre usually go for.

Band brand

If you already have a brand and a logo for your band – you will want to consider this very carefully in the design of your event posters. Obviously the logo will need to be included but does your brand have a colour palette? Does it have a typeface? Make sure your posters have your branding so that loyal fans can recognise your information.

Include enough information

There is absolutely no point in creating event posters if you are not going to include all the information fans need to book their tickets and attend your gig.

The information you should always include:

  • Your band name
  • All your tour gig dates
  • Time and venue for each gig
  • The price of your ticket
  • Contact and booking information
